Marble Bar

A tribute to Adolf Loos

The American Bar in Wien, designed in the early 20th century by Adolf Loos, condenses the architect’s obsession with natural stone and decoration into just 27 square meters. A precious and inclusive building whose dualism between the interior and exterior offered new customs and ways of living space.

Like an alchemical mix between scenography and monument, we have envisaged rebuilding by parts the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the iconic bar designed by Loos.

In a representation that is not authentic yet is faithful to the original, we used new techniques to update the design’s formal catalogue, by making the onyx as thin and transparent as a veil, with slabs pretending to be monolithic columns and by combining textures and finishes that can lead to new values of surfaces.
